Used Car Searches

When I started my career as a social worker thirty years ago I never thought I would be using a computer on a daily basis to help my clients. In fact I never really had any formal computer training. When I was in high school we thought it was great when could use electric type writers rather than the manual ones. When had the type erasers and then when I was a senior in high school we had correction fluid. Boy have things changed. When I was in college we were trained in the computer punch cards to enter data into the computer. It was tedious work that I did not understand. I did not pay too close attention to the computers because I was going into social services so I did not think I would ever use one. Good thing I am not a fortune teller, I would starve to death.

For the past ten years I have used a computer to complete reports, store data on individual clients and help track deadlines for reports. I have also used the internet to gather information for clients. One of the things that I use a great deal with the various clients is used car searches. Many of the people I work with are on very low budgets. As a result their vehicles are constantly breaking down or being reposed. They need to have transportation in the area I work because there is no public transit system. There are volunteer drivers to take them to medical appointments, but that does not help them get back and forth from their jobs or to get groceries and other necessities needed to raise a family.

 Bit of History
Strange and predatory and truly dangerous, car thieves and muggers—they seem to jeopardize all our cherished concepts, even our self-esteem, our property rights, our powers of love, our laws and pleasures. The only relationship we seem to have with them is scorn or bewilderment, but they belong somewhere on the dark prairies of a country that is in the throes of self-discovery.
—John Cheever (1912–1982)

The used car searches are a great way to find a vehicle in your price range. To best use the used car searches you should enter as much information about the type of vehicle you want as possible. You can enter a price range, type of vehicle, make, model and year if you want to. You can also put in how far a radius you want to go to find the vehicle. You do this by entering your zip code and indicating the number of mile radius you are willing to search. Because the clients I work with live in a rural area we tend to start with a fifty mile radius. The great thing is if you do not find the vehicle that you are looking for you can expand your search. Both car dealers and private parties are listed in the used car searches that we use. By looking for a car in this manner you do not have to comb papers or go from car lot to car lot.
