Being in a motor vehicle accident is a traumatic thing. If you happen to be hurt it’s even more difficult. Every year many people are injured in car accidents. One common injury that many people suffer during a car accident is soft tissue injuries to the neck. This injury is usually referred to as whiplash. For a car accident victim the painful effects of whiplash aren’t often felt until the shock of the accident itself has worn off. You may feel fine right after the collision yet the next day feel as though you can’t move your neck. If this is the case you need to see your doctor as soon as possible.
In addition to hurting your neck there are other aches and pains that can show themselves after the collision. One may be the result of your seatbelt cutting into you. Although seatbelts do save lives they can also cause some muscle damage during a bad collision. When a car accident victim is hit hard and the car jolts to a stop, the seat belt will be pulled tight to keep them in place. This type of injury also requires doctor’s care as it involves the chest area.

Many people who would have suffered much more serious injuries are spared because of the air bag. A car accident victim may have some facial cuts, bruising or swelling from the airbag. Although the sum may sound good it’s always best to discuss it with a skilled attorney before signing any release form. Although you may think the money offered is enough to pay for your pain and suffering, remember that the effects of a car accident can often be felt for years to come.
